Advance Directives -- What Are They? Advance directives are legal documents that are intended to clearly express a person's wishes about health treatment and care, during any time the person is mentally or physically unable to make decisions or communicate those wishes, and that are signed before he/she becomes mentally or physically incapacitated.
This material, provided by the Disability Law Center of Alaska, explains durable powers of attorney, living wills, and declarations for mental health treatment.
